Lancet Reports Benefits of 15 min. of Exercise

Previous exercise guidelines by agencies such as CDC and Surgeon General are for 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise each week or 75 minutes of vigorous a week. You would think this is pretty attainable over the course of a week. Still, 30% of the population cannot find time to exercise AT ALL DURING THE WEEK! Hopefully, the new research published in the Lancet will motivate them a bit. The report shows that just 15 minutes of physical activity per day reduces a person's risk of death by 14% and increases life expectancy by 3 years compared with inactive people. Every additional 15 min of daily exercise beyond the minimum amount of 15 min a day was shown to further reduce all-cause mortality by 4% and all-cancer mortality by 1%. Individuals who were inactive had a 17% increased risk of mortality compared with individuals in the low-volume group. The study followed more than 400,000 individuals - 20 years and older - from 1996 through 2008.

Exercising is the best way for a healthy body. And since, most of the jobs today don't need physical effort at all. It's crucial to exercise.
Thank you so much for sharing this.

Thanks again for commenting Janett - I'm hoping some of this new research gives the 30% of the population who are doing nothing - a liitle boost or push to get moving!!!

15 minutes a day is attainable. I'm doing at least an hour of basketball per day. This is good news for us people. Everybody let's get active!

Could not agree more with you - hopefully more people will cut back on screen time and get out (or in) and move more!

I have started to spend 15 minutes a day while jogging along the canal rather than laughing lunatic.scientists found that breathing air, eating food and drinking water can significantly increase life expectancy.
