A new study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine reports that some of the best sources of fiber are from none other than your breakfast cereal. I thought most breakfast cereals contained too much sugar? In any event, the study looked at death rates of nearly 400,000 subjects who consumed varying amounts of fiber each day. Males who consumed 29 grams/day of fiber and females who took in 26 grams/day of fiber lived longer compared to subjects who ate 13 and 11 grams/day respectively. The report when on to state that the subjects that really came out ahead were the individuals who consumed fiber that came from grains rather than fruits or vegetables. Can anyone say Kashi Crunch or Fiber One cereal?
